Motorola professional series ATEX radios
The professional choice for hazardous environments
Secure and reliable communication is important, whether on an oil platform, in a gas installation or in another environment where explosions could occur. Three key elements have accordingly been combined by Motorola – its expertise from 75 years in the communications business, its broad experience of producing two-way radios for use in hazardous environments, and the well-known two-way radio platform offered by its Professional series. Motorola introduced its portable Professional radios in 1999, and these now set the unofficial standard for mobile radio communication. This portfolio has been enlarged with four Atex versions. So it has never been easier for customers to find a radio which suits their operating environment and communication needs. Motorola’s Atex-approved portable radios in the Professional series provide team members with immediate access to one or more colleagues by pressing a single button – ensuring constant contact in critical conditions without compromising safety.
Quality and reliability
Motorola portable radios in the Professional series offer unique, crystal-clear sound quality by activating either the company’s own X-Pand™ technology or low-level expansion. This reduces the noise normally heard during pauses in a conversation. When discretion is the most important consideration, the “whisper” function means that even the quietest message can be transmitted and understood. All the radios have passed Motorola’s stringent accelerated life test, which simulates five years of hard use in the field. Robust and reliable, these units comply with IP54 for use in environments where dust and water intrusion could cause other radios to fail. The Professional series of portable radios has also been designed and built to exceed the 11 current tests in the demanding MIL Spec 810E standard, which is the US Army’s stamp of quality.
Safety Pressing the highly visible orange emergency button will initiate an organisation’s approved emergency communication procedure. A separately available third-party plug in the control board for options offers “man down” capability, which activates an emergency procedure if the user falls when using the radio. Additional safety equipment includes a specially designed battery connection which prevents non Atex-approved batteries being installed in the radio. The lockable extras plug has an anti-manipulation screw to control the use of optional equipment.
Productivity
The channel scanning function makes it possible to monitor and respond to activity in various communication channels, and thereby avoid missed calls. When working close to other users or outside the facility, the talk-around function makes it possible to communicate without using the system or central unit.
Economic
All Atex radios in the Motorola Professional series are delivered with a soft leather case and a newly designed lithium ion battery which will exceed capacity requirements for most work teams. Organisations already using portable radio fleets in this series can utilise existing adaptors and chargers for vehicles.
Adaptable
The GP340 Ex, GP380 Ex, GP580 Ex and GP680 models are supported by a range of Atex-approved audio equipment, such as headphones, remote speaker microphones and earplugs tailored for today’s radio users.
